Orang utan jenis ini, nyaris punah. Di Indonesia, populasi Pongo Pygmaeus tinggal beberapa ratus dan hanya terdapat di sebagian Kalimantan dan Sumatera. Si Pongo ini merupakan satu di antara lima koleksi Taman Satwa Taru Jurug, Solo pada 17 Maret 2004
